My name is Morgan and I’m the Assistant Shelter Director at CL&SH. My sister purchased this same safari experience at a charity auction several years ago and I was fortunate enough to get to go with her in June 2018. I have been to many places, but this safari was one of my favorite vacations. The beauty of South Africa and hospitality of its people was incredible, and I would go back in a heartbeat!
Let me know if you have any questions about this package. I loved this trip and am so excited to get to share it with you! I can be reached via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. What does the trip include?
Your purchase price includes a six-day, six-night stay at Zulu Nyala’s Heritage Safari Lodge in Hluhluwe, South Africa for two people. Also included are 3 meals a day and 2 safari rides lasting a few hours each. You are assigned a guide when you arrive and this guide stays with you for all rides and off-site excursions you might choose to do.
Is safety an issue?
I had no concerns for our safety while on this trip. The staff at Zulu Nyala are constantly present and while you are off property, you are with your guide. You will see some guards, but they are there to protect the animals, not the people. Your lodgings are also not near anything so the only people you will see during an average day are generally other guests and the Zulu group that lives on the property and works at the facility. There is a safe in every room for valuables. #ChargingElephantRUN!!!
What are the accommodations like?
Beautiful!! You are definitely in the middle of the bush in Zululand, but that’s what you’d expect for a safari. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the lodgings were extremely clean and updated, and the food was excellent. Check out the pictures provided to see the room we stayed in and some of the grounds.
Are there any extra costs?
Airfare is not included in this trip. Zulu Nyala offers transportation from various airports to their facility. This is extra but worth every penny. Drinks are not included with the meals, but each guest is given two bottles of water a day. There are also excursions you can add onto your safari, which I highly recommend, and your guide will arrange these and transport you to and from them.
What if I have more than two people?
Zulu Nyala allows you to add people to your reservation but the extra people will have to pay the standard rate. For our trip, my sister and I went using the safari package and then we added our parents and two friends.
Do they speak English?
Yes! You’ll feel right at home, but you’ll get the chance to add a few new words to your vocabulary. It’s lekker!
What animals will I see?
The reserve has rhino, elephant, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, cheetah, zebra, as well as wildebeest, nyala, warthogs, impala, monkey, and other small game and birds. We went on excursions to the national park and a neighboring reserve to track lions. No one reserve can claim the leopard but he was visiting Zulu Nyala when we were there, so we did get to see him.
What’s the size of the safari groups and is it weird being with strangers?
Absolutely not! Meeting people was one of the great experiences of the trip and most of the people at the reserve were American. You start your rides with the same group and stay with them throughout your time there. We had 9 people in our group, the six of us that came together, two people from California, and one from Miami.
Can we extend our trip?
Absolutely! I highly recommend seeing more of South Africa while you’re there. We flew in and out of Cape Town and took an in-country flight to Durban. We spent 2 days in Durban before heading to our safari and afterwards, we flew back to Cape Town and spent 5 days there. The country is stunning and very diverse so enjoy it while you’re there.
What’s the value of this package?
The package is valued at $5,950 but remember, this is for charity! So 50% of the price you pay comes straight to Crisis Line & Safe House. It’s not often you get to vacation and support a great cause!
