Crisis Line&SafeHouse1

Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia, Inc. provides comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and dating violence in Bibb, Crawford, Jones, Peach, and Twiggs Counties in Central Georgia.  The mission of CL&SH is to provide community crisis intervention as well as safe shelter, comprehensive support and recovery services for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, and to educate the community about the cycle of violence and its prevention.

While CL&SH is a single agency, it operates four intertwined yet separate programs to ensure victims receive adequate services while healing from the most intimate types of violent crime.  The programs include a 24-hour Crisis Hotline, a Safe House for domestic violence, stalking and sexual assault victims and their children, a Legal Advocacy Program aimed at guiding victims through the justice system, and a Sexual Assault Advocacy Program designed to intervene in reported cases of rape and sexual assault as soon as possible following victimization.

In 1971 the Crisis Line began as a suicide prevention hotline. Over the years, this service expanded as Crisis Line developed collaborative efforts with other local organizations to ensure quality crisis intervention for all those in need of suicide intervention, emotional support, and referral services. The hotline continues today with a trained staff of advocates taking calls 24-hours a day/365 days per year for an array of issues including domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and dating violence.

Conceptualized in the early 1990’s and brought to reality in 2000, the Safe House for victims of domestic violence and their children has grown exponentially in the last few years.  The Safe House not only provides temporary safe shelter for victims and their children but offers many support services to ensure the family’s transition to a violence-free, self-sufficient lifestyle including: safety planning, weekly support groups for residents and their children, parenting classes, assistance with job training, nutrition and cooking classes, personal budgeting and finance classes, transportation assistance, household establishment assistance, as well as many others.

As one of only 22 Rape Crisis Centers in Georgia, CL&SH provides trained sexual assault advocates on-call 24-hours per day to all local hospital emergency rooms. These advocates provide bedside support for victims of rape and sexual assault and provide much needed aftercare.  In addition to providing immediate bedside advocacy, our sexual assault advocates provide follow-up medical, police interview, line-up, and court accompaniment for victims and act as a referral source to transition victims into one-on-one professional counseling and other community resources.

Our trained staff of certified legal advocates not only assists victims in the preparation of paperwork necessary to obtain emergency Temporary Protective Orders but also provides a needed network of support throughout the criminal justice process for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Every client served through the program participates in safety planning with the advocates.
