Macon Family Justice Center

Seeking to further help crime victims, Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia applied for and received a grant in 2020 to establish a Family Justice Center in Macon. Funds from the grant will be distributed over four years to support the planning and establishment of a Family Justice Center set to open by early 2023.

The Family Justice Center will be a central location where victims who have experienced abuse can access life-saving services from a variety of non-profit organizations and criminal justice agencies who will each house a representative in the Center.

Based on a successful national model, the Center will alleviate many of the obstacles that hinder victims from receiving services, such as being required to travel to multiple locations or to repeat their story over and over again.

In preparation for the Center’s opening, Crisis Line & Safe House (the center’s fiscal agent) will be hosting a series of community forums, survivor focus groups and other events.

The family justice center model has been named the best practice in the field of domestic violence intervention and prevention by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women. Outcomes include reduced homicides, increased victim safety, reduced fear and anxiety for victims and children and more.

The grant was awarded by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council under the Family Justice Center Initiative.
