Sexual Assault Response Advocate

The Sexual Assault Advocate at Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia provides to victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and coordinates volunteers providing rape crisis and domestic violence services.

Job Title: Sexual Assault Response Advocate
Reports to: Sexual Assault Advocacy Coordinator
Department: Sexual Assault Center
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt
Job Hours: Part Time

Essential Job Functions as Shelter Advocate:

  • Provide crisis intervention and support to victims of sexual assault and their friends or family, either face-to-face or by telephone
  • Provide hospital response services to victims of  Sexual assault and domestic violence
  • Assess immediate victim needs and provide appropriate referrals
  • Answer the crisis hotline to provide effective assistance and helpful information to the caller
  • Follow each funder’s standards as it relates to services and case management
  • Stays up to date on resources available to assist victims of sexual assault and domestic violence to include but not limited to community and in-house resources
  • Maintains appropriate standards of confidentiality
  • Assists with recruitment of volunteer advocates who will provide hospital response services
  • Ensures that necessary information regarding each client is properly documented either in the client file and/or through other data collection methods
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with Crisis Line & Safe House of Central Georgia policies and procedures
  • Works as a team member with other staff and volunteers in order to achieve the mission of CL&SH
  • Maintains communication with the Sexual Assault Advocacy Coordinator and reports any victim advocacy contacts
  • Maintains communication with Shelter Director and alerts her of any major problems or high risk situations
  • Screens client appropriateness for shelter entrance when admission is needed
  • Completes intake of in-coming clients and children

 

Preferred Requirements of Position Applicants:

  • Possess at minimum a four year degree in the area of social work, psychology, criminal justice, community counseling, or equivalent work experience
  • Possess a background in non-profit work
  • Possess a background in victim advocacy
  • Possess an understanding of sexual assault dynamics
  • Possess an understanding of domestic violence dynamics
  • Able to work independently
  • Able to utilize the resources available both in the community and in-house.

 

Mandatory Requirements of Position Applicants:

  • Pass a criminal background check
  • Willing to submit to random drug screenings
  • Willing to adhere to all agency policies and procedures

  • Organizational skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to learn to use TTY machine
  • Ability to use all office equipment (Microsoft included)
